In the first days of June, as the magical British summer got going, North London Cares was working hard to prepare for one of our most memorable moments of the year: the Harvist Estate Street Party to mark the Jubilee.

We wanted to throw a party on the estate for a one main reason. Earlier in the year, we'd focused some of our Big Chill work in the neighbourhood and the community here seemed to be a microcosm of Islington itself, and the north London as a whole.

In fact, as local councillor Andy Hull said to the gathered revellers at the time, the party worked so well because it brought together:

"A football club, a school, a business, a leisure centre, a martial arts group, a, church, a cultural group; working class, middle class, old, young, black, white all enjoying time together and living together -- that's what Islington is all about."

In the end, about 300 people showed up to spend time with their neighbours, and to enjoy music, dancing, entertainment, food, games and sport. Some of the video and photos of the day are inspiring -- check them out and share, then get involved with NLC!
