With just a few days to go before Christmas, our 12-part review of the year is into summertime...
In July, we undertook a new project in partnership with Islington Council. Our task was once again to get out into the community -- knocking on doors and visiting care homes and community centres -- to raise awareness about the importance of staying cool and connected during a potential heat wave.
We knew, of course, that heat waves are by no means a given of the Great British Summertime! So our role was to make sure that as many older and potentially vulnerable people as possible had the tools at their disposal to stay healthy through the regular summer months as well.
Some of our messaging was common sense: drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and caffeine in the extreme heat, keep a fan in the home. Other parts were about making sure our neighbours felt confident that they had good networks of friends and family around them in case circumstances changed.
We had a great time meeting so many of our older neighbours in community centres and care homes across the borough.
Throughout July, we also launched our new-look website, continued our growing Love Your Neighbour project, and expanded our popular film clubs:
And, working with Arsenal in the Community, we helped deliver an exciting National Citizenship Service project at the Emirates Stadium. Check out the video of what happened when 10 young people took up line dancing with local dance superstar Joyce!
