It's December 19. That must mean we're just 5 days away from our Christmas Eve finale in our special NLC advent calendar.
Today, we're looking back at some of the work we completed in August, a month in which our work continued and expanded apace, as we signed up new volunteers to support their neighbours in a bunch of exciting ways.
Andreia and Jorge both got involved in helping their older neighbours with simple, practical tasks. Both had helped deliver the brilliant street party on their Islington estate earlier in the summer. Now, they were helping Bridget and Angela around the house, getting the garden cleared and putting up shelves:
As well as our Love Your Neighbour project, we were also continuing with our Hot in the City project with Islington Council. Our volunteers visited day centres, community centres and residential care homes, speaking to as many people as possible about the importance of staying hydrated and healthy in the summer months.
Check out the great Peel Centre members listening to a presentation on the potential health impacts of extremely hot weather:
But perhaps most excitingly of all, we put together a lovely day's volunteering for some of the many young local participants of the government's National Citizenship Scheme. Again working with Arsenal in the Community, those volunteers visited the amazing St Luke's Community Centre near Old Street, and shared tea, games and laughter with dozens of their older neighbours:
And of course we continued with our regular film clubs, at the Drovers and the Peel Centre, and began expanding into Camden.
More on that over the coming days...!
