In the bold brutalist building of the Brunswick Centre our green fingered neighbour, Walter, recently celebrated one year of friendship with Yehia. The pair initially met through our Social Clubs programme, where they quickly established a close rapport which has blossomed into the most vibrant of friendships.
Walter said: "he knows the modern world, I know the past and we try to meet somewhere in the middle. He keeps me lifted."
The two often meet at Walter’s place but have been known to explore other terrains too. Whether it’s stuffing themselves with wholesome meals conjured up to satisfy the soul or soothing their ears with an elegant opera performance, Walter and Yehia certainly know how to indulge their senses.
The friends have navigated some unanticipated seasons over the last year. Yehia speaks of how he and Walter "spend hours just chatting and laughing through life".
Whether it's getting caught in a spine-chilling blizzard, ending up bed bound or experiencing the joy of a secret fist pump after catching a leaf falling Walter and Yehia have been there, battling and rejoicing together. Like the deepening of roots in a well-cared for plant, their friendship stands with more strength than ever.
So, let’s raise a glass and celebrate the pair: here’s to showing life’s seasons who’s boss! Happy one-year Walter and Yehia!
