We know that many older people in the community feel anxious about the pace of modern life, and the changes brought about by big business, globalisation and gentrification. But we also know we have lots of great firms in north London doing fascinating things. Our job at North London Cares is to connect those two worlds - so we thought why not take a gang of older neighbours to visit one of the companies working right on our doorstep...

Our partners at Euromonitor in Farringdon were happy to oblige, giving 18 ladies from Kentish Town - many of whom were born and have spent their whole lives in this part of the world - a really warm reception, with sandwiches, cake, tea, coffee and an insight into the world of modern work.

For many of the ladies, most of whom were in their 80s and 90s, the introduction to "hot desking", "breakout spaces", "dial-in-conferences" and "webinars" was a real eye opener - a million miles from the switchboards, typing pools and munitions factories they became familiar with during their own working lives.

As well as spending time with the employees at Euromonitor and getting a little snapshot of how a modern office works, the gang were thrilled to learn so much from three presentations in the conference suite - about sales, research, consultancy and data.

Check out the video and the photos - and if your company would like to host a gang of older neighbours let us know!
