Older and younger neighbours got together in Islington last month for a very special evening of musical entertainment. The gang welcomed four time UK beat boxing champion Grace Savage in for a performance of this incredible art form. Grace gave the group some hints and tips on how to use their voices to create some memorable sounds and told them all about her experiences performing around the UK and internationally.

Younger neighbour Sasha was catching up with Michael who she has met a few times at other North London Cares events. They were watching Grace’s demonstration intently and then teamed up together to put what they had learnt into practice.
“Without a doubt, beat boxing with the older neighbours was one of the best evenings I’ve had in a long time”, said Sasha. “I learnt a new skill, made some new friends and did something that I never imagined I would do. Grace was brilliant and getting to do the tune with Mickey put a smile on my face for the rest of the week!”
Older neighbour George wasn't sure what to expect from the evening but had been looking forward to catching up with friends.
"I’ve never seen anything like this before, I couldn’t believe it. She has a real talent, I really didn’t know this existed!"
Dina is a regular at North London Cares events and was impressed by how unique the evening had been.
"I really enjoyed it, it was amazing to discover that you could use your body to make such interesting sounds!"
The club finished with Grace performing one of her songs and adding her own beatbox percussion at the same time. Everyone left the room on a real high, laughing and talking about what an exciting night it had been and promising to keep practicing, even if it meant getting some strange looks on the bus!
