From Hollywood blockbusters starring Bruce Willis (Lil’s favourite!) to the old classics featuring Cary Grant (Laura’s favourite!) there’s something for everyone at our Tuesday night Film Club and 2014 has started strong with a fascinating talk from Islington’s Lost Cinemas.

Watching a movie on your own is never the same as watching with friends, so our weekly film club in Caledonian Road is a popular choice for our older neighbours and volunteers. With the first hour spent chatting over tea and cake, it’s also a great opportunity to catch up and meet new friends before the lights go down for the main feature!

Last month our passionate film club, were delighted when Sam and Xavier, from Islington’s Lost Cinemas, decided to stop-by and chat to the group. Having researched the history of cinema and film in the borough, the keen historians brought photos of cinemas long forgotten. Our volunteers were interested to learn that shops and flats they pass every day, used to be grand picture houses and it sparked a lively discussion from lots of the club who frequented the cinemas in their youth.

So what better film to show than The Ladykillers, a popular Ealing Comedy, shot in our very own borough. As well as being a popular choice with both our older neighbours and volunteers, it brought the memories flooding back for members who had watched it being filmed!
