There's no better way to bring people together than breaking bread and sitting down for a good feed. That's why over the past few months North London Cares volunteers have brought their amazing culinary skills to bear in various Cooking Sessions with their older neigbours in King's Cross, Camden Town and Kilburn.

So far, those volunteers have drummed up grub as diverse and tasty as:

  • Chinese Tofu and Dumplings
  • Sinaporean Chicken
  • Greek Moussaka and Feta Salad
  • Braised Steak with Dauphinoise Potatoes
  • Thai Chicken Salad
  • Shepherd's Pie with Vegetables
  • Italian Meatballs
  • Fresh Meaty Pizza

As well as getting a great meal the great thing about these sessions is that they're a brilliant way to share a recipe too -- to pass on a skill and, as they say, to "give a man a fishing rod..."

With that in mind, we're starting a new programme of cooking events at Abbey Community Centre in Kilburn. As well as our now monthly Saturday "Community Time Camden" Sessions there, from September 17th volunteers will have the chance to show off their skills with a small group of older gents on a Tuesday over the next 6 weeks.

September 17th -- 11am-2pm -- Fresh Meaty Pizza, with our friends from Euromonitor.
September 24th -- 11am-2pm -- Mexican Fajitas
October 1st -- 11am-2pm --
October 15th -- 11am-2pm --
October 22nd -- 11am-2pm -- Savoury Crepes, with our friends at Les Greedy Cochons.

And because we've only completed half the programme so far, we need your help -- and your culinary flair! If you've got a delicious dish, and can spare 3 hours on a Tuesday lunchtime in October (a lot of firms will give you time off for community projects -- ask your boss!) then we'd love to welcome you along.
