At NLC we like to make sure that our older neighbours and volunteers have as many opportunities as possible to experience London's cultural offerings together. So we host regular outings to ensure everyone makes the most of them.

We all know that London is the most wonderful city in the world and how lucky we are to have a wealth of of cultural experiences on our doorstep: film, music, art, theatre, food and more. We want to make sure that as many of the older people we know are able to make the most of these experiences and so regularly organise outings to ensure they are able to engage with everything our great city has to offer.

Every month our volunteers accompany their older neighbours to the London Symphony Orchestra which stages regular performances at LSO St Luke's, a converted church in Old Street, which has been recently restored and reinstated as a centrepiece for the local community. Many of our older neighbours remember the church as it was before subsidence in the 1950s led to the church's abandonment for decades. Film and lunch club regular Lil was even baptised in it!

Every time we visit LSO St Luke's we are treated to a beautiful performance which in the past has included a string quartet, piano recitals, the French horn and trombone amongst others.

Trips to LSO St Luke's take place once a month; get in touch at [email protected] if you would like to come along next time.

Our volunteers also regularly accompany their older neighbours to Rio Cinema in Dalston which hosts a monthly seniors film screening for people over 60, and they have been treated to classic performances such as It's a Wonderful Life and the Oscar-nominated Philomena.

And soon our regular Tuesday film club members will be going on a trip to the cinema using money they raised themselves through a tombola on their street.

If you would like to attend one of our trips, or have an experience you just have to share with your older neighbours, please get in touch at [email protected].
