Our February Heroes

Please note: this post is 94 months old and The Cares Family is no longer operational. This post is shared for information only

At North London Cares February has been a month of love and laughter, with new and old friends coming together to share time across Camden and Islington.

Every day, our community network inspires us with acts of kindness and friendship. And this month, we’d like to to say a special thank you, to Catherine, Fi, Byron, and Laura who have got creative, ran and baked to make their neighbours feel vibrant, valued and visible. You are our February Heroes!

Catherine is a brilliant regular volunteer at our weekly Kentish Town Social Club and before every Club walks with older neighbour Laura on the way there. It’s small acts of kindness that give our older neighbours the confidence to go out into the community and build lasting friendships with their younger neighbours.

Thank you. Catherine, you are a hero!

Volunteer Fi, held an coffee art competition at work and asked for donations towards her 100km London to Brighton walk in aid of North London Cares - the response was phenomenal. In an extra act of kindness, winner Joao kindly donated his £250 prize money to Fiona's challenge. She said "I was in tears!"

Well done Fiona and thank you - what a great, fun way to raise money for North London Cares, which will help bring company, conversation and companionship to our older neighbours in Camden and Islington.

Volunteer Byron ran the Brighton Half Marathon for North London Cares on Sunday 26th February, raising an awesome £335. Byron took on the challenge as he had seen first-hand how North London Cares tackles loneliness amongst older neighbours in his community. Byron, you did an awesome job and every penny raised will help to bring more neighbours together to share time, laughter and friendship. Thank you!

Laura, a new volunteer baked a batch of lovely home made jammy dodgers for her first club.

She then handed them out to her neighbours, who loved her sweet treats. Thank you Laura - your act of kindness was very much appreciated by all your neighbours.
