This winter, as we have done for the last two years, North London Cares is delivering a special campaign to help keep our older neighbours warm, active, connected and healthy.
It's a chance to support local people in need, and to help our neighbours through what can be an anxious and lonely period - when there's snow on the ground, ice on the pavements and the days are dark and grey.
As in the past two years, our amazing volunteers will have the chance to get out on the doorsteps - to give hundreds of their locals a knock to make sure they're OK, and to alert them to the range of services we're offering in partnership with Islington Council, including:
This year, we're also arranging for volunteers to deliver Christmas trees to their older neighbours, and to decorate and have a natter and a cuppa with them as they go. Fun!
Our campaign featured on BBC London News last year - check out the clip below:
So far this year, we've already spoken to dozens of older people and given out leaflets at the Old Time Music Hall event, our storytelling night, the Peel Centre, the Age UK Winter Warmer event - and today we visited the lovely people of the Bemerton Estate at their Christmas Tea Party, as well giving our first 50 older neighbours a knock to see how they're doing.
As always, this NLC campaign is nothing without you, our brilliant volunteers. If you would like to join us over the next 3 months door-knocking on a local estate, speaking to lots of our lovely neighbours across Islington, please sign up or email [email protected].
