Making a difference to a Tottenham school

The Lemuel Findlay Supplementary School has been helping young people in Tottenham since 1974 -- join North London Cares to help ensure the school can keep its doors open...

When the Lemuel Findlay Supplementary School contacted North London Cares a month or two back to ask for volunteers to support local children of all ages with their learning, and to help cover a severe funding gap at the Saturday school, we were thrilled to be able to help.

The school has been going since 1974, and has made a huge difference to people's lives in Tottenham and across communities in north London.

So, after a little digging, we recruited seven qualified teachers in their twenties, mainly from the Teach First network, to offer a little time on a handful of Saturday mornings throughout the autumn term -- each stepping up to support a local school in its time of need.

Now we're nearly a third of the way through the term already, and we're really grateful to Hannah and Katie for the amazing work they've already done with the students so far.

Each has brought their dedication to education and amazing skill in the classroom to the school -- they're doing an absolutely brilliant job, and meeting some great kids in the process!

But over the coming weeks, we're going to need more help in the school.

If you're a qualified teacher, can you give up a little bit of your time to sit with young people in very small groups as they learn their times tables, or prepare for their GCSE exams?
