Meet Sylvia and Sarah

Please note: this post is 85 months old and The Cares Family is no longer operational. This post is shared for information only

Meet Sylvia and Sarah, friends and neighbours living in Islington.

North London Cares met Sylvia through our Winter Wellbeing project. We knocked on her door to check she was keeping well last winter. After chatting to Sylvia, she told us that she was keeping warm, but would like to make a new friend in her local community.

So we introduced her to Sarah through our Love Your Neighbour programme. And, as Sylvia says, “We’ve been friends ever since.”

Help more neighbours to become friends this winter by supporting our Winter Wellbeing project.

Between 28th November – 5th December, all donations to North London Cares will be doubled, thanks to the Big Give Christmas Challenge. Please head to the Big Give Christmas Challenge website to have your donation matched.

More about Sylvia and Sarah

Sylvia is a born and bred Londoner. When they meet up she loves to tell Sarah about the history of London and what she's seen on her regular walks around the city.

Sarah has lived in the city for several years, but has found that everyone is in a rush, no one has a moment to pause and very few people talk to each other. She missed having a connection to her community.

But now Sarah has learnt so much about her local community from Sylvia, and Sylvia is always excited to hear what Sarah has been up to at work, with friends and much more. They’re friendship has continued to grow through the time they’ve spent together.

The friends meet up every week for a chat, cup of tea and maybe a biscuit or two. They’ve been out to the local pub for a swift gin, conversed over burgers and are looking to do something special to celebrate Christmas together – and a year of friendship!
