Meet Your Neighbours: Laura

Laura is 97 years old and has been attending North London Cares events since they started. She is a much loved member of the Kentish Town Social Club and has made so many new neighbours feel welcome over the years with her infectious laugh and huge smile.

What was the first North London Cares event that you attended?

That's going to take some remembering as I've been coming since the start!I think it was film night at the Ingestre Road community centre which I was a member of. North London Cares started doing a film night and that's where I met Laura, who was running the social clubs. When they started doing the club at Kentish Town I came along to the first one and I've been there ever since, like part of the furniture!

What has been your favourite experience with North London Cares so far?

I love the big parties the best, watching everyone dance and have a good time. I liked the Brazilian carnival we had recently, the dancers were very good and kept us all entertained. Whatever is happening at the club its always a lovely place to go because of the people. They are so kind and welcoming and always make you feel special.

What advice would you give to a neighbour attending their first club?

I would say just walk straight in, we're all waiting for you! Everyone who comes to the club is always given a big welcome and a nice cup of tea, its such a friendly place. Come and join us!

Where do you like to go in Camden or Islington to feel happy?

I like going to my local church and sometimes across the road to the Lion and Unicorn pub for some Sunday lunch with Toni.
