My first week!

Please note: this post is 78 months old and The Cares Family is no longer operational. This post is shared for information only

Most first weeks in a new job, however excited you are about the role, are usually made up of feeling like a really anxious spare part as you desperately try to find your feet in a new environment.

I’m not sure if it was the welcome breakfast (with two different types of yoghurt!) or the warm hug I received from every new colleague who came into the office, but within half an hour of my first day I felt like I’d worked at North London Cares forever.

When asked what the highlight of my first week was it was almost impossible to choose one. From cheering on Marlon Brando at my first film night and getting to meet lots of new friends, to visiting Versailles via VR at Google, at times it’s been difficult to believe that I’m being paid to be here!

If I have to pick though, finding myself body popping through a hip hop dance class at the Kentish Town Community Centre probably topped the lot. It summed up everything that I was hoping this job would be, older and younger neighbours getting to know each other whilst having a brilliant time and learning some new skills.

It’s been so inspiring to be around such dedicated and passionate people and I’ve been made to feel really welcome at every social club I’ve attended.  I can’t wait to see what the next few months bring and I’m looking forward to becoming a part of such an amazing community!

North London Cares is currently looking for another Programme Coordinator to join Andy and Rosie in hosting our social clubs .
