It’s been a busy few months on the Love Your Neighbour programme. Since September, ten new pairs of younger and older neighbours have been getting to know one another by regularly spending time together, swapping stories and exploring their shared communities. Here are just a few of the lovely new friendships forged in north London...
Tina and Esther have been meeting up in Tufnell Park for the past three months. Tina tends to pop round for a hot drink and a chat, or a trip to the local shops together. Esther grew up in Rangoon but moved to London over 40 years ago. She spends a lot of her time now making and knitting items for her family, so her and Tina have been sharing crafting tips when they hang out.
Paul and Arthur met just a few weeks ago. Paul’s originally from the North East, while Arthur’s lived in south Islington all his life. Thankfully they were able to put aside their footballing differences straight away! Before he was black cab driver, Arthur used to get around the same way Paul does nowadays: cycling. It’s how he learnt the Knowledge!
Love Your Neighbour isn’t just about introducing neighbours; it’s about long term friendship. Lizzie met her older neighbour June in Highbury back in May. Six months on, and June recently told us “I couldn’t wish for a better friend.”
Here’s looking forward to more younger and older neighbours becoming good friends in 2018
