North London Cares' Treasure Hunt

Please note: this post is 90 months old and The Cares Family is no longer operational. This post is shared for information only

North London Cares is coming together to celebrate our community in a very special way - through a Treasure Hunt!

Th Nlc

What is it about?

With the support of the Big Lottery, this one-of-a-kind Treasure Hunt is based on our neighbours’ memories and celebrates north London’s intriguing history as well as our gang’s quirky anecdotes about our community in Camden. Now it’s your turn, to find out about your neighbourhood through orienteering around Camden to find your neighbours' memories.

Through taking part, you will help the invisible to become visible again, and share a unique experience across the generations.

The Treasure Hunt will be followed by our Big Camden Celebration, where you will join your older neighbours for an afternoon tea with live music.

How does it work?

Teams of five will orienteer around Camden using a specially designed map to find locations connected to their older and younger neighbours’ memories. You will then carry out special tasks to win points at these locations - and the team with the most points will be crowned the Treasure Hunt winner!

The Treasure Hunt will finish at Haverstock School, with our Big Camden Celebration, where there will be live music and an afternoon tea to share with your older neighbours. The winning team will be announced, and given a special prize.

You will also have the opportunity to meet the neighbours whose memories you have been searching for and share an afternoon tea with them, as well as many more neighbours who live in the local community.

It promises to be a great event, and we would love to see you there!

Time and location

Date: Sunday 30th July

Time: 11am to 4pm

Location: Haverstock School, 24 Haverstock Hill, Chalk Farm, London NW3 2BQ

How do I sign up?

Email: [email protected]

Spaces are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

I can no longer attend, what should I do?

If you can no longer attend, please let Mike know as soon as possible by emailing: [email protected]

It’s very important you let us know that you can no longer attend as soon as possible. This is so North London Cares does not spend unnecessary money on printing, catering and other costs involved in running the Treasure Hunt.

Can my friends, who aren’t volunteers, join in?

Unfortunately this is a special event for volunteers who have attended an induction (though you don’t have to have come along to a Social Club yet!).

If you have friends that are interested, but have not yet attended an induction, please email [email protected] to see if they can attend an induction prior to the Treasure Hunt.

What team will I be in?

Teams of 5 will be allocated on the day. You will remain with this team throughout the Treasure Hunt.

My friends have signed up - can we be on a team together?

We will make every effort that teams of friends can remain together on the day, but can’t guarantee this.

Will there be a lot of walking?

Yes! You will be orienteering throughout Camden Town, Chalk Farm and as far as Euston.

Do I need to bring anything?

Make sure you:

  • Wear comfortable shoes.

  • Bring a waterproof.

  • Any snacks or water you may want over the course of the Treasure Hunt.

  • Your phone! Your phone is essential, as you will need it to access your neighbours' memories. Therefore, if your phone has any battery issues, please also make sure you bring a powerbar - it won’t be as fun if your phone dies halfway through!

  • Download a QR Code scanner on your phone. More details will be sent closer to the event.

Who should I contact if I have more questions?
