But very little of this would be possible without the support of our runners, organisers, and volunteers who have donated their time and skills to support their community. Thank you to our April Champions!
Earlier this month, volunteer Anna ran an epic 26.2 miles for her neighbours across Manchester, raising over £1,400 to support her community!
We introduced Anna to Yvonne through our Love Your Neighbour programme over two years ago, and both love spending time together. They regularly meet to have dinner, a chat and possibly a cocktail or two!
Thank you, Anna for not only running such a long distance but for also being such a wonderful friend to Yvonne. You truly are a champion.
At the start of April, volunteers Fiona and Francesca organised our Oldfield Eats Social Club. Ricotta and spinach gnocchi were on the menu, followed by fruity flapjack. Fran and Fiona talked older and younger neighbours through every step of the cooking process, and ensured that all thirty people had a lovely time. Thank you Fiona and Francesca!
In addition to creating delicious dishes at Oldfield Eats, Francesca completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge for her community - and is running the Hackney Half and Toughest Obstacle Course over the coming months. Go Francesca and thank you for taking on this epic set of challenges!
Volunteer Ben kindly donated his time and skills this month, helping us print our new North London Cares’ leaflets! Thank you Ben, your skills have meant we can invite even more older neighbours across our patch to North London Cares' activities.
Who Do You Think You Are? That was the question on our neighbour’s lips in April, when volunteer Rebecca organised two North London Stories podcasts, based on the famous TV show she works for. Both were a roaring success, with neighbour Harry even bringing in photos from his childhood. Thank you Rebecca, you really brought a smile to our neighbour’s faces!
Have you been inspired? There are lots of ways to fundraise for your community, and you can find out more here. Alternatively, get in touch with Victoria if you have an idea that you’d like to become reality. She can help you with anything from a ping pong tournament to Eurovision party!
