Prost! Oktoberfest in NW5

Oktoberfest

In October, older and younger neighbours came together to celebrate all things beer and Bavaria at Oktoberfest at Kentish Town Community Centre.

Everyone started by learning all about the history of the festival, which was later put to the test in a competitive quiz! Did you know that the first Oktoberfest dates back to 1810 and was put on to celebrate the marriage of Bavarian Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese?

Over the years it has grown and now each year between six and seven million descend on Munich for the annual event.

Over at Oktoberfest in NW5, the neighbours were busy trying out local beer from Hammerton Brewery – they sampled both the ‘N7’ and the ‘Islington’ which had been brewed down the road in Barnsbury, which led to lots of discussion about which was everyone’s favourite.

After the tasting, the competitive spirit from the quiz continued with a fairground game of throwing a ball to knock down a tower of cans. Everyone cheered each other on and there were certainly some sterling shots.

Most of all everyone had a great time chatting and making new friends - "I've loved sharing a drink and having a chat - it's been one of the best clubs ever."

In fact, conversation was only ever interrupted for people to get up and have a go at  lederhosen in the photo booth. What can we say but - prost!
