Special moments with special people…

There are always lots of magic moments at NLC's social events....

And today was no exception.

As well as arranging for Dingchang, a student from China now living in Queen's Crescent, to spend some time with Betty and other older neighbours, we also learned about Alice Herz Sommer, a local Camden resident and inspirational woman celebrating her 109th birthday today.

Alice is a musician of some accomplishment and true Scrabble-addict. She is also the world's oldest known Holocaust survivor.

Ahead of our film screening this afternoon, Dingchang, Wendy and Sheila, two NLC Film Day regulars and close friends of Alice's, played a special game of Scrabble to mark the day.

The words they chose (they bent the rules a little) each had significance to Alice's amazing life: Sophie was her mother who brought the gift of twin girls -- and thepositivity that inspired a wonderful, long life.

Happy birthday, Alice
