This month has been an eventful one in north London. From our team of runners taking on the Royal Parks Half Marathon, to our Cares’ Clothes Party, to Peakon inviting their older neighbours for a visit – cheers to our October Champions!
This month our team of 12 brave runners took on 13.1 miles during the Royal Parks Half Marathon to raise money for their north London community.
It was a bright autumnal day, and our team made it around the course in style with friends and family cheering them on. They loved the support they received from their neighbours; from volunteer Amy receiving wishes of support at our Camden Sings Choir, to reading the many well-wishes from the likes of Maggie, Ken and Margaret on our North London Cares’ banner.
Thank you to our runners. You raised an awesome amount of money taking on this challenge, forming friendships from Kentish Town to Kilburn and beyond.
Earlier this month, our older neighbours went to visit Peakon, a consultancy that works with companies to improve employee engagement. They learnt about what Peakon do day to day, chatted with their younger neighbours about their lives in London, had some delicious sandwiches. John and June even had a chance to take a quick whirl around the room with a new friend they made. Thank you to the team at Peakon for arranging such a wonderful visit!
From consultancy to clothes – on Friday 20th October, North London Cares, and our sister charity South London Cares, hosted our autumn Cares’ Clothes Party. We had an evening of clothes, cake and carbs! New outfits were found amongst some friendly but fierce bidding, and everyone had an great time. Over £330 was raised to help make our winter activities possible. Thank you to everyone who attended – we hope to see you at the next one!
Finally, on Friday 27th October, volunteer Avy held a spoken word night at the Hen and Chicken Theatre Pub in Islington to raise money for North London Cares. Her friends and family came along, and Avy told the audience that "North London Cares means a lot to me. That's why I'm here." She raised a fantastic £56.74 on the evening, as well as inspiring a bunch of friends to get involved in North London Cares! Thank you Avy for your continued support.
