For all time, music has had that power to bring people together, to connect and to inspire. That's why we held a special social event this week called "The Mixtape" in King's Cross...

Working with The Challenge and The Peel Centre, our aim was to bring together a group of young people with some of their older neighbours, to discuss the music that's important to them, and to discover common ground and common interests.

We knew that many people have preconceptions about modern music -- it's repetetive, it's aggressive, it's too bassy or beatsy; and we knew that some younger people can think that older music is a bit dull, a bit slow or dated.

Over the course of the discssion, however, we were reminded that some songs are truly timeless, that variety is the spice of life, and that music generally has that rare ability to inspire and excite across the generations.
