The next big project - and why we need your help

Please note: this post is 146 months old and The Cares Family is no longer operational. This post is shared for information only

We're proud of what we, along with over 175 of you, our amazing volunteers, are creating at North London Cares.

Over the past 6 months, we've:

Now, North London Cares is ready to move on to our next big project.

And it is a big one.

Over the next three months, we will again team up with Islington Council -- this time to conduct a vast research project into the resilience of residents to changing climate conditions in one of the UK's most deprived boroughs.

Our plan is to get deep into the community. We want to understand if -- and how -- some of our most vulnerable neighbours are adapting to more frequent heat waves or planning for floods. We want to know who people turn to in difficult moments. And we want to discover which tools could be most responsive to people's needs in future.

To do that, our plan is to:

  • Knock on 1,000 doors to ask local people to complete an in-depth new survey
  • Speak to local schools and children'scentres
  • Survey various health and social care providers in Islington
  • Survey Day Centres and Community Centres about their needs
  • Talk with mental health and substance abuse agencies
  • Hold focus groups to obtain in-depth qualitative information about local people's views on climate impacts
  • Host various social events to speak to people about their needs on their own terms
  • Learn more about the needs of various local charitable and community groups working with vulnerable people

And to manage that, in a couple of short months, we're going to need all the help we can get!

If you have a background in research or community organising, or if you have a little spare time and would like to volunteer an hour or two on this exciting project, please sign up. And stay tuned here for updates on progress!
