The Collective Temperance is based at the old National Temperance Hospital; a disused hospital from the 1930s, before it was given a new lease of life when the Collective refurbished the building for use again.
Neighbours shared many memories of the building. Michael remembered delivering parcels to the entrance of the hospital in his van; “it’s certainly different in here now”.
Other neighbours, like Laura, commented “I’ve seen this place a thousand times and never been inside - until today. Thanks for the invite.
Our older neighbours were entertained by a presentation from fellow Collective members Mallow and Marsh. They learnt about marshmallows, testing different recipes, and interesting facts such as Yorkshire being the capital of confectionary. Older neighbour Rosemarie even volunteered to become their next taste-tester!
After that, to help celebrate Cares’ Cake Week, neighbours enjoyed some sweet treats and met other members of the Collective, who were excited to share stories about their businesses.
Businesses visits like these are always thoroughly enjoyed by our older neighbours, who love to hear and feel a part of London’s changing landscape. If you’d like to welcome your older neighbours to your workplace, please email Indie.
