For some of the most disadvantaged, elderly and isolated people in north London, January and February can be the most difficult period of the year. Please help us today to ease the winter for our neighbours -- by giving up just an hour or two to help.

We all know that winter can be tough. January seems to drag on and on and on. And February, with its bitter frosts and sleets, can be dank and depressing.

But for some older and more isolated people in our community -- people who live just a couple of doors away or even in the same block -- this time of year can be even harder still. In the coming weeks, many of our neighbours will have little warmth, and few close relatives to support them through a difficult time. Some will feel even more disconnected from the world around them than ever.

That's why North London Cares has partnered with Islington Council and Age UK Islington to support our neighbours during these difficult winter months.

And that's why, over the next ten weeks, we really need your help.

We're looking for people from Islington, Camden, Hackney and Haringey -- young professionals with a little spare time and the ability to help -- to join us in supporting our neighbours through winter. We need you to give just a couple of hours of your time -- to deliver leaflets, to assist us with home energy visits, fire safety checks, home security checks and flu jab reminders and to help us refer a range of support needs to the relevant services.

Many of the people we visit may not need very much support at all -- but all will be glad of a friendly face during this cold and isolating time of year.

We're beginning these efforts on January 25th in Islington, and they'll be ongoing across our Boroughs over the coming ten weeks. No special skills or knowledge are required and a briefing on the services being promoted will be provided.

Thank you.
