Over the last two weeks, we've been looking at some of the work North London Cares has delivered in its first full year of operation.

We're proud of what we've achieved in a small space of time.

We've recruited 260 volunteers to support nearly 300 of their older neighbours in various ways -- with help around the home, support getting out of the house and saving money, and new companionship and social opportunities.

Our volunteers have added some 800 hours to the community this year, creating 10,600 new interactions in the process.

They've hosted 70 social clubs, spent time with neighbours during loads of care home visits and even put on a big party on a local estate.

In the last month, we've helped some of our more vulnerable neighbours secure grants totalling over £2,000 through the London Community Foundation's Surviving Wintercampaign, with more such grants to follow.

We've hosted a brilliant storytelling event, and a lovely carol concert bringing school kids together with their retired neighbours.

And as Christmas and the new year fast approach, we've got hampers to distribute too, kindly donated by readers of the Islington Tribune.

We're delighted to announce that in 2013 we'll be expanding our work.

With new grants from the Department for Health and the Department of Food, the Environment an Rural Affairs, we'll be publishing reports showing how our methods are helping reach out to isolated people in Islington.

We'll be holding the first meeting of our Loneliness and Isolation Learning Group, bringing stakeholders from across north London together to share experiences.

And we've secured substantial support from Camden Council. That means we'll be recruiting really soon, and rolling out new ideas in one of our home boroughs over the coming months.

None of this could have happened without the time, energy and effort of our amazing volunteers.

This is an organisation built on your enthusiasm, and all the team at NLC are so chuffed that so many of you have chosen to get involved.

Thank you for everything you have done this year. We can't wait to get going again in 2013.
