North London Stories Volume 2: School days (Part 1)

Please note: this post is 105 months old and The Cares Family is no longer operational. This post is shared for information only

Last month we released North London Cares’ first podcast, all about the New Year's Resolutions of some of our older and younger neighbours - and why they matter. We're really glad to report that Ethel is indeed being more outrageous! We knew she’d keep to that one…

This time round we want to share some of the tales that came out of our Castlehaven Road-based North London Stories social club in February. Ray, Michael and Sonia who have been regulars at the club talked to volunteers Rebecca and Fran about memories of school.

There were good and not so good memories – this is real life after all! The once-mischievous Ray recalls being dragged down the road by the caretaker who made sure he attended school. Rebecca remembers the madness of school dinners in a lively canteen:

Sonia told us:

"I enjoyed my secondary school a lot. Primarily because I had a good English teacher. She was supportive, very considerate, kind all the time and would always go the extra mile to help if you didn’t understand something."

We like the sound of her, Sonia.

Please do have a listen and join in the conversation on Twitter or directly at one of our North London Stories social clubs. We’d love to hear your thoughts and memories too!
