Fred has been part of the North London Cares community for a decade. During the lockdowns, he wrote his memoirs – about how a boy from north London grew up in war, travelled the world, came home, fell in love and travelled the world again. We're proud to present the first of four excerpts from Fred's memoir about love and loss, hope and heartbreak, mischief and misadventure.
The sky high temperatures on Saturday didn't stop the North London Cares family getting together to toast our eleventh birthday! Archway turned blue for the day as we ate cakes, danced the macarena and limboed our way into our second decade. Read on to hear about what we got up too...
I started as the Outreach Officer here in early June. However, my journey towards working here really began in 2021.
Carmen has been coming to clubs with her carer for a while and says it is helping with her recovery from her stroke. She made this wonderful plaque for us - Thank you!!
Our Work Place Visits, which see a group of older neighbours attend the office or work space of a local business, are some of the most popular clubs we run at North London Cares. Some may say the bigger the city, the lonelier we may feel. We have all experienced these feelings at some point over the last two years. Sadly those in our communities who were already isolated before the pandemic have felt lonelier than ever which is why the work we do is more important than ever.
Most of us are more encouraged to try something new when we’ve been recommended by a friend, so we want to ask you to mention us to your mates!
